Day 1 ! Blogging for Octoberfest 2010!

Autism....

Nathan was given the diagnosis of Autism in July when we saw the Pediatrician.
We did some paperwork - and we were told that he has mid - high functioning variety. Now we have to wait til our next appointment to find out more.

I didn't actually realise that the paperwork we did was part of the actual paperwork we have to do for the diagnosis until the Speechy asked had we done it (MCHAT) and I was like, ummm I've done it 3 times now...

Our next scheduled appointment isn't until 12/12 - so I have been calling and calling to see if we could see him sooner... Finally last Friday we got the date of 19/10!! I also kept the 12/12 appointment and made another appointment while I could for mid March which is when his next appointments were available. I dread to think when our next appointment date would have been if we didn't see him until Dec and tried to book the next appointment!

He passed his hearing test last week! Scheduled for an eye test on the 19/10 as well. Speechy is doing a formal speech assessment to see where he actually sits next Friday and we see the OT the following Thursday to discuss the program she wants us to start with him..

When we saw the OT a few weeks ago she told us that he has a big problem in the sensory area. And said it needs to be addressed and dealt with ASAP. Evidently the messages from his brain to what activity etc he is doing is getting lost in translation and then the same on the return path from the activity to the brain :(

I questioned her about toilet training as he will be 2 1/2 at the end of October and she said its the least thing to be worrying about atm and to deal with everything else first off. I wish certain people would stop constantly hounding me about it. He doesn't even know that he poo's in his nappy - you find out when the smell his you :(

Any way I best be moving and starting activities here for the boy
